Mt. Kanuki
静岡県沼津市上香貫Mt. Kanuki is a small mountain adjacent an urban area, 1 km (roughly 0.62 miles) southeast of Numazu Station. It is symbol of Numazu City together with Senbonmatsubara and Osezaki Cape, and is loved by the local residents. There are different flowers and natural scenery to enjoy in every season, such as the cherry blossoms in the spring, the hydrangeas in the beginning of summer, and the fall leaves in fall. You can see across Numazu City and Suruga Bay from the observation deck near the summit of the 193 m (roughly 633 feet) high mountain. If the weather is good, you may even be able to see Mt. Fuji beyond Mt. Ashitaka. At Kouryoudai, which is half way up Mt. Kanuki, there is a memorial tower for those who passed away in the war (five-story pagoda), a shop, and toilet. In spring you can enjoy cherry blossoms here. The distance from the start of Mt. Kanuki’s hiking trail to Kouryoudai is about 800 m (roughly 2624 feet) and it is also possible to go there by car. The hiking route from Kouryoudai to Mt. Kanuki’s summit is 1 km (about 0.62 miles), so the round trip is about 2 km (roughly 1.24 miles). Along the route there are plazas with play equipment and picnic benches, where you can stop and rest. It is a good, simple hiking course.
