Ryosenji Temple

下田市三丁目12−12

In 1854 the Japan-U.S. Peace Treaty was signed, and Perry’s fleet was let in to Shimoda Port. Ryosenji Temple was used as a reception point for Perry and his fleet and as a place of negotiation with the shogunate. The finer details of the Shimoda Treaty (Japanese peace treaty) were decided here. The temple is a designated national historical site.
