MOA Museum of Art
静岡県熱海市桃山町26-2This famous museum in Atami has mainly Asian paintings, calligraphy and crafts. There are 3500 pieces in total, including 3 national treasures, 67 important cultural properties, and 46 pieces of important of art. The Ogata Korin masterpiece and national treasure called “Red and White Plum Blossoms” (*available to see for a limited time only) is particularly famous. This beloved piece is on display to the public each year in February to align with the plum blossom season. The art gallery sits on a block of land on high ground that is roughly 0.08 square miles (or about 0.23 square kilometers). You can see stunning views of Izu Oshima Island and Hatsushima Island from inside the main lobby and from the plaza. The facility also has gardens so there are flowers to enjoy throughout the year, like the cherry blossoms and azaleas in the spring, new greenery at the beginning of summer, and fall leaves in fall. Feel like you are on holidays, and soak up the art and nature.
