Former Yoda Residence (Nationally Designated Cultural Historical Property)
静岡県賀茂郡松崎町大沢153In 2010 the Yoda residence buildings were designated tangible cultural properties (architecture) of Shizuoka.
There were a total of 5 buildings given this status, including the 300-year-old main building, the 200-year-old guest room that is removed from the other buildings, and the three warehouses built at the end of the shogunate (equipment storehouse, rice storehouse, and miso storehouse).
The main building is said to have been built around the Genroku era (1688-1704), and took 13 years to construct. From the outside it looks like one of the many private houses with namako walls, but the rafters in the eaves are covered in plaster. It is also a fire-resistant building, with a copper-plated fire door at the front of the house. The building was used by myoshu (a village headman) as a large private house. It is the second oldest private house in the Izu region.
